Was wollt ihr also mehr? Unser Clip of the Week heißt in dieser Woche "Girls in the Dirt" von Children:
Zu unserem
Clip of the Week gibt es natürlich schon mannigfaltige Antworten von den beiden musizierenden Aktdarstellern von
Children. Die beiden Herren haben sich deutlich erfreut über die Auszeichnung gezeigt und einige Details zu den Umständen des Videos und der Band an sich gegeben. Hier der Originaltext:
You have your own Industrial Metal project Children. How is the work going and since when do you have this band?
Chad: We've been working on this band for a little over a year. It originally started as more of a traditional melodic black metal project. When we had trouble finding a proper drummer, we started to experiment with pre-programmed tracks and synthesizers and ended up liking the sound and the concept of the two-man band much more. We have about 7 songs so far but Girl In The Dirt is the only one we've done a professional recording for so far. A full length album is the next goal for us.
Chris: That pretty much sums it up.
You clip is full of symbolism: Pig heads, baby guitars and armless drummer girls. How can we understand this combination and what is this song about?
Chad: I'll leave this one up to Chris. The lyrics to this song were his, as were all of the concepts in the video.
Chris: It's hard to say what the real motivation behind the song is. Some of our lyrics have more direct metaphors, but "Girl in the Dirt" is really just imagery out of context, almost like a dream that never really happened. It's just about finding a girl's arm sticking out of the dirt and pulling her up... and knowing that she was murdered.
The armless girl just plays off the song's lyrics. Everything else evolved from a combination of the imagery in my head and the resources we had available to us. Chad and I are both into dark/violent film and literature. But we also have a certain love for satire within those genres. For example, one of my favorite authors is Dennis Cooper. He often writes about very taboo topics such as rape, necrophilia, and other violent sexual fantasies. But there's always an element of humor in it. I don't think you can live inside that world and take yourself 100% seriously. It has to be fun too.
So we're basically taking iconic horror/metal/fiction imagery and adding our own spin to it (I hope).
Is that girl an actual drummer or is she just an actress for the video?
Chad: That's Chris's girlfriend. She is also known as pornstar Lily LaBeau.
Chris: Yeah, she's not actually in the band. But she agreed to let us crucify her upside down, so I was pretty happy about it.
You wrote that the clip was filmed independently. Who was shooting it and how long did this take? It's actually a quite well shoot video.
Chad: Chris graduated from film school, and the majority of the crew on the shoot were friends of his from film school and selected based off of that. We did the whole video in 2 full shoot days, excluding one extra night we had to re-shoot for part of the crucifixion scene at the end. Some of the digital files of the footage somehow got corrupted and became unusable.
Chris: What Chad said is basically true. I produced and directed the video with a good friend of mine named Johnny White (who I did not meet in school). But the cinematographer is a girl named Alex Dillon. We went to the University of Southern California together and have been working on projects together for the past few years.
Since we had been doing spec commercials and stuff like that, I really wanted to shoot a short film that didn't need to be commercially acceptable. So when Chad and I started this music project, it seemed like a music video would be the most convenient thing to shoot next.
It was also just a realization that so many bands come out every year with great songs and demos, but our culture is so visual at this point. For anyone to pay attention, it seems like you need to provide some visual stimulation. So we tried to make the best video possible with a very limited budget and resources.
You two also play a lead role in this clip which seems not too unusual for you because of the main job your both are committed to. Is it hard to combine the job of a pornographic actor with the aim to have a working metal band?
Chad: We have not even begun to work on the band as a full time thing, but it is definitely what we would like to do - we would like to spend time on the road, touring, as well as working on studio projects and projects like music videos more often. We look forward to progressing with the live show. We both love doing porn but we are just as passionate if not more about music. It would be a dream come true to be able to balance working with the band and working with porn equally throughout the year.
Chris: I'm not even sure yet. Like Chad said, this is a pretty new band. We haven't gotten to the point where we have the opportunity to tour and stuff like that. So if that becomes a reality, we'll see how it effects our jobs in porn.
Would you say that there are similarities between metal and the porno business?
Chad: Not many, but there are similarities between every part of the entertainment industry. You have your stars, and your divas, and your underdogs. And there's the politics. There's always the politics. All I know is that I love and hate things about both of them.
Chris: I don't know. I guess they've both been a sort-of marginalized subculture at some point. Maybe they continue to be.
Do you take over some problems or themes of your work into your music?
Chad: Actually, so far we haven't touched base too much with porn-related concepts in our lyrics. There are definitely lyrics about sex, but none specifically about porn. I'm not sure if we'll ever take things there or not, but it doesn't seem too far fetched. Anything could happen!
Chris: There's a lot of sexual imagery in our songs. But most of it isn't grounded in reality. I think sex and violence go together well as a fictional concept, but I'm a lover and a pacifist in real life. I just want to feel good. Hah.
Maybe you can help: I was always interested in the truth of the following quote by the great Hunter S. Thompson, who said: "Writing is like sex; it's no more fun when you do it as a professional".
Chad: Sex definitely changed for me when I started doing porn full time, but just as with anything else, it has its ups-and-downs and pros and cons. I've actually learned a lot about myself as a person, about my own sexuality, and about everyone else's sexual behavior as well. But I wouldn't say it has become any more or less fun, but the experience has definitely evolved.
Chris: Porn for me is either the best job in the world or the worst job in the world, depending on the day. When everyone is getting along and you have great chemistry, it can be great. But it's also a job where you need to figure out a way to get your dick hard even if the girl isn't into you and everyone on set is stressed out, and you're having personal problems, or whatever. There can be a lot of pressure. And if things don't go well, it can really fuck with your head.
With this bombshell I'll end and say thank you for your time. Last words are yours!
Thank you so much!
- Chad and Chris
Enjoy.
