Wenn Metaller einen Vergnügungspark entdecken, ist kein Halten mehr. Alle flippen aus und stecken sich die verrücktesten Sachen in alle Körperöffnungen. Von den ekstatischen Kettenkarussellfahrten will ich erst gar nicht sprechen. Die Schweden Avatar haben ein solches Naturschauspiel nun festhalten können und es sogleich zum Clip zu ihrem Song "Black Waltz" gemacht.

Visuell sehr schön gearbeitet und mit einen latenten Hang zu artistischer Tollheit, gehen Bild und Ton eine unterhaltsame und detailverliebte Symbiose ein. Die Aufarbeitung im Kubrick/ Manson-Stil wirkt dabei nicht abgeklatscht und aufgesetzt, sondern unterstreicht den Song mit einprägsamen Bildern. An den Herren Produzent Johan Carlén ein Lob. "Black Waltz" ist unser Clip of the Week!

Ein Glückstreffer auch für uns, denn so wirklich viel war in dieser Woche nicht los, was Videos betrifft. Da kommt dieser kreative Zirkuswahnsinn zum Freitag genau richtig! Gern würden wir ihn euch auch zeigen, doch die GEMA hat etwas gegen Clowns, weshalb ihr noch einmal mehr klicken müsst, um die Kirmes-Apokalypse zu bestaunen!

Unseren heiß begehrten Clip of the Week-Award räumten sie ab und konnten dazu bewegt werden, ein paar Worte diesbezüglich zu äußern. Der Avatar-Sänger und Videostar mit dem knackig kurzen Namen Johannes Michael Gustaf Eckerström stand uns zur Verfügung und hatte Folgendes zu berichten:


You're the this-weeks Clip of the Week winner! How do you feel?

It feels great! Thanks! Feeling bad for the germans who can't see it though.


Who came up with this whole circus theme and how was the shooting in the
amusement park?

It started with the song simply being what it is. A dark, mean waltz with those certain harmonies and stuff that makes it fit that theme. Then as we stumpled upon the right people to work with it all fell into place.
The amusment park was fun. You get the weirdest feeling from being there after dark. It's awesome. A place that usually is so full of life is suddenly all yours and the ghosts who live there.


Have there been some questioning eyes because of your special dress?

Eyebrows have been raised, but rarely in question of what we do. People who get us, gets it.


What was the inspiration for "Black Waltz"? It looks a bit like Stanley
Kubrick / Marylin Manson and a B/W version of the Joker.

You pretty much nailed it with Kubrick/Joker. But it's not the Heath Ledger one, mind you. It's more of the fun loving, deranged Joker you see in the cartoons and when Nickolson is doing him for Burton's movie.
It's basically all the things that makes clowns awesome. They're fun, extravagant, fearless and fucking scary. I use it to see a different side of myself in the mirror that I bring with me up on stage. It helps me get in touch with the darkness our songs come from.


How did you come to the artist group Hellzapoppin?

A series of fortunate events, I guess. Bryce, the leader, met a lady in our crew and helped us with some sick pictures involving lots of fire. While doing those he showed a bunch of tricks and we figured that we had to take the chance to use it while we could.


If not for shooting a video, do you like such parks?

Hell yeah! For a million reasons. They're awesome!
